¡Hola, friends!
With Valentine’s Day approaching, everyone seems focused on the big gestures: the roses, the fancy dinners, and the question, "Will you be my Valentine?" But as a busy mom with a husband who works just as hard as I do, I’ve realized that real love looks a little different in our house.
The Reality of the "Busy"
Let’s be honest—between work, cooking, and chores, finding "romantic" time can feel nearly impossible. By the time I’m done in the kitchen and he’s finished with the house chores, we’re often exhausted. Our "us" time usually ends up being the three of us curled up watching TV.
But lately, I’ve realized that we do make time; it just doesn't always look like a candlelit dinner.
Romance in the Ordinary
We find our connection in the things that might not seem "romantic" to an outsider, but mean the world to us. It’s cooking together just to be in the same room. It’s sitting on the couch reading our separate books but enjoying the quiet company. It’s being together, even when we’re doing nothing at all.
Love is a Family Affair
To me, Valentine’s Day isn't just about husband and wife; it’s about the family you love so dearly. It’s about prolonging the love you have for each other every single day.
I want my daughter to see that love isn't just a holiday—it’s a lifestyle. It’s the little things that show someone truly sees you:
It’s your spouse seeing you’re tired and stepping in to clean up a mess without being asked.
It’s your child looking at you and saying, "Don’t worry, Mom, I’ve got you."
My Valentine’s Wish for You
This year, I had to take the time to set my mind on what matters. I want us all to remember that love happens in the "little things." It’s in the help, the hugs, and the way we support each other through the busy days.
As the big day nears, don’t stress about the perfect gift. Just remember to love each other every day. Because in the end, that's what a "Sanctuary" is all about.
What is one 'little thing' your spouse or child did this week that made you feel loved?
